Letters To Juliet Hairstyle

The Folded Half Ponytail Hairstyle From "Letters To Juliet"

Awhile back (around the time this movie came out) I did a post about some of the cute hairstyles in the movie "Letters To Juliet." This was right after we had cut the princess's hair for Locks Of Love and sadly she didn't have quite enough length to try and recreate any of the hair styles. Well, it has been awhile and her hair has grown quite a bit. Enough in fact that we were able to attempt this cute rolled, twisted and folded half pony!

Here is the original hairstyle on Amanda Seyfried (or Sophie in the movie.) Which I grabbed from the Letters To Juliet Trailer on Youtube.

Any takers? lol. This is the second time recently that I have forgotten to take a pic and have had to use a screen shot from our video!

So anyway, this is a great hairstyle for moms as well as teens, tweens, and girls. I actually tried this on my own hair when I got home from the movie the night I watched it and have worn it quite a bit since then.... so I've had some practice. I love that this hairdo is quick but still has an elegant look to it.

The Letters To Juliet Hair Tutorial:

As you'll notice while watching the tutorial, I only used 2 bobby pins to create the style. Depending on the thickness and texture of your hair, you may need to use more. This will also depend on the type of bobby pins you are using. We purchased the bobby pins used in this video at a beauty supply store, so they hold a little tighter than the usual cheapy version. You'll probably need to experiment a little and figure out what works best for you!

Taylor Swift Hairstyle - "Love Story" Updo

Taylor Swift curly updo hairstyle from the music video "Love Story"

Taylor Swift UpdoThe Princess is a big fan of Taylor Swift's music. We happened to see her Love Story video and of course fell in love with her hairstyle in the video! We've been wanting to try it for awhile and finally got around to it this weekend.

At first I tried to place the headband underneath her hair that is swept up and twisted on the sides. (The same way Taylor Swift's hair is in the video.) Well, the headband kind of got lost under all of those curls and was barely visible. :)
Updo with headband hairstyleSo, we ended up moving the headband on top of the hair and more towards the front of her head where it could be seen.

I'm loving this vintage princessy look! Of course, it doesn't look exactly like Taylor Swifts hair, but pretty darn cute either way.
wedding updoI could see this working for a wedding hairstyle for the bride or flower girl. Or maybe a hairstyle for prom or other dance.

To complete this style, you will need:

Naturally curly hair...... or some curlers or curling iron.
An elastic
Several Bobby pins
A headband, ribbon or other accessory for some added sparkle. (In case you are wondering, we purchased our headband at regular old Walmart. I believe it was made by Goody.)

And here is the video tutorial:
Our princess was so thrilled to have matching hair with her favorite singer Taylor Swift! She said this is her favorite hairstyle so far. ;)

Survivor Braided Hairstyle

Survivor "Redemption Island" Braided Hairstyle:

On last weeks episode of Survivor: Redemption Island, one of the girls (Andrea Boehlke) had the cutest beachy braided cornrow hairstyle! I have to laugh because team members Andrea, Ashley and Natalie got into a bit of "trouble" with another cast member for playing "beauty pageant" instead of working around camp lol. Apparently it was worth it though because gosh, look how cute these beachy french braids are!
survivor hairstyle andreaI had to snap a picture of our TV right then and there! And of course, we wanted to recreate this hairdo on our princess. Keep in mind, it would be better to be working with dry, slightly wavy hair to create this tousled beach look. The princess had freshly washed/wet/straight hair when we decided to try this one, so it's more slicked down and less messy looking than the survivor camp version.

We started with a regular side part.
Then made 3 cornrow braids on one side of the part....
On the other side of the part, I left out a section in front to braid later and added 2 more cornrows slanting slightly forward. If I did this again, I would probably angle them more sharply towards the front of her head.
Next I started another cornrow with the front section or "bangs" and added in the other 2 cornrows with the braid as I got to them.
I kept braiding, and as I turned the corner, only took hair from the top of the french braid around to the back.
After all of the braiding was complete, I added everything together into a ponytail.
And lastly, made a messy type bun....

survivor braided hair styleI should have taken a picture, but the day after we did this- her hair looked more like Andrea's (since the braids had a chance to loosen up and get a little messy overnight.)
redemption island hairstyleA fun braided style for the beach, camping, or anytime. :)

Belle Hairstyle - For Short Hair

Do we have anyone dressing up as Belle for Halloween this year? I hope so. She's one of mine and my daughter's favorite Disney Princesses!
Beauty and the Beast Belle Hairstyle We posted a Belle Hairstyle for long hair a couple of years ago with our Halloween Hairstyles. Well, our Princess asked for this Beauty and the Beast Hairstyle just recently, and her hair isn't quite long enough for our original version. So, we modified it a little. Here's a video tutorial showing how to create a Belle Hairdo for shorter hair....

Bell Hairstyle
Disney Princess Hairstyle I love how this Belle hair style turned out! I think I like it even better with her shorter hair cut. Although gosh, I can't believe how much her hair has grown since she had it cut. It's really not that short anymore! Btw, if you are looking for a wand to go with your princess or fairy halloween costume, my friend Trisha has DIY instructions on how to make a fairy wand and how to make a tulle wand on her site. So adorable!

Sarah Michelle Gellar Inspired Boho Hairstyle

We love the Bohemian Braid hairstyles that are so popular right now. The Princess has requested several "Boho Braid" hairdos we've seen around. But I've had a hard time finding many that will work with her new bob haircut.

Then, we saw this bohemian braided hairstyle on Sarah Michelle Gellar and decided we might be able to make it work...

I didn't make our braids as messy or tossled looking though. I've found that when I try to make things "messy cute" it usually just turns out looking MESSY and not so cute lol. If you want your braids to look more like Sarah's, try braiding textured hair when it's dry, and keep it loose.

So you start by making an inside-out french braid on both sides of her head, in the front. And tie each braid off with an elastic.
Then add some loose curls in the back, for texture. I just used our curling iron and some hairspray to create these curls.
Next I took the top section of the curls (not neatly, just use your hands and kind of grab a section like you are making a half pony) and bring the braids underneath, tying them together with an elastic at the back. As you can see, we barely had enough length to join the two braids together...
Now bring the hair from the top loosely together into a half pony over the braids and add an elastic. Don't worry about making it perfect looking.
We obviously don't have enough length in the back to create a traditional messy bun. So, I just pulled random pieces of hair up and pinned them into place with crossed bobby pins....
There is no exactness to this part. Just keep grabbing chunks of hair and pinning them until you are happy with it! Don't even worry about the bobby pins showing either. It adds to the cuteness in my opinion.
So anyway, here is the end result of our improvised messy bun for short hair!
I really should have taken a picture of this hair style at the end of the day. It ended up looking so cute after she had been playing. It just got cuter and cuter as it loosened up and got messed up a bit.

"Letters To Juliet" Hairstyles

I went and saw the movie "Letters To Juliet" recently and fell in love with some of the hairstyles they did on the main character, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried.) Truth be told, I think I was paying more attention to the hair styles than I was the actual movie. I tend to have that problem sometimes! :)

After seeing all of these cute hairdos, I was wishing that we wouldn't have cut the Princess's hair!
Here's the first hairstyle that I thought was especially cute. A simple twisted half pony.......
letters to juliet hairstyle from the back Here's our attempt to recreate this lovely Amanda Seyfried hairstyle:

And this one: We've actually done similar stuff with a quick twist across the front before. I'm guessing you have too.
amanda seyfried front twist This one was my favorite! I looked all over and couldn't find a picture of the back of this hairstyle though. If you watch the movie, you'll see it towards the end (at the wedding.) And yes, I may have to rent the video when it comes out just so that I can see this hairstyle again.

Here's the front.....

amanda seyfried hairstyle A side view......
letters to juliet braided wedding hairstyle It was loosely braided like this on both sides. And then in the back, it was brought together with a cute braided bun thingy. It really was gorgeous! I would try and recreate it for you, but.... snip, snip, remember? :( You may have to go see this chick flick yourself just for this hairstyle!

A Continuation Of The Beverly Hills Chihuahua Hairstyle

Here's a little quickie post for you.....

The day after we did the Piper Perabo hairstyle from Beverly Hills Chihuahua. The Princess liked it so much that she wanted me to do it again! But it was really windy outside so I didn't want to leave her hair down to get all tangled up. (Neither one of us enjoy combing out a tangled mess at the end of the day.) So.... this is what we did instead. I didn't think you would need step by step instructions for this. It's just twist braids in the main pony with the sections added in all the way down. You can refer to the other post if you need help with the top.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua Hairstyle

I had a reader email me about a hairstyle she had seen in the movie "Beverly Hills Chihuahua." I had not seen the movie, but of course I was curious about the hairstyle so I had to rent it, LOL. We took a trip to the Redbox last weekend and for $1 I'm so glad we did! My kids liked the movie and The Princess loves this new hairstyle we TRIED to recreate. I couldn't find a picture online to show what this is supposed to look like. But, if you end up watching the movie, it's the hairstyle Piper Perabo (Rachel) is wearing towards the very end. So anyway, it doesn't look quite like the original, but I did the best I could to copy it. :) I started with a part down the middle, then 2 parts on each side going behind each ear. Yep, they're crooked, I didn't worry too much about getting this one perfect, it's supposed to be a little messy. At least that's my excuse for the messy parts :)

So, you're going to end up with 2 sections on each side of the middle part (4 total.) One at a time, take a section and twist it towards the middle of her head. Keep twisting until it looks sorta like this and temporarily hold it in place with a clip. Get all four sections twisted. Both sections on the right side are twisted counterclockwise. The sections on the left are twisted clockwise. Join them all together in the middle with a clear elastic. In the movie I didn't see any elastics, but I wasn't in the mood to figure out how they did that, kwim? Then of course later on while doing the hairstyle I though of a way to hide the elastic but didn't want to go back and redo. So, you'll see how I hide another elastic a few steps down. Just do that here too if you want it covered, k.Ok, now take the hair in the ponytail and make some little twist braids with it (if you don't know how to do a twist braid, click on the link, you'll find an instructional video there!) I did four.Flip the twist braids up out of the way and form a section underneath like this......Bring the twist braids back down and add to the ponytail you just made, securing with an elastic. Make 2 more sections on both sides, twist and cross them over the elastic. Then, bring them underneath the ponytail. (This is what I'm talking about with hiding the other elastic, you could do the same thing on top with the outside sections.)

After you cross and bring the sections underneath, secure them with an elastic under there.

And here's what you'll be left with. See, I really should have done that top section over. Now that elastic is bugging me and it's such an easy fix. Oh well, maybe next time.

I think Piper Perabo might have naturally curly hair, I don't know. But in the movie it was kind of loosely curled and messy looking. I didn't have time to go into all of that, The Princess was almost late for school. But, in the past I've made similar curls by wrapping the hair around the outside of the curing iron instead of clamping the hair inside the usual way. I loved how this looked when she came home from school. It was a little messier and had loosened up a bit. It actually looked more like the original do in the movie at that point. So now I'm wondering if any of you have seen the movie and if you noticed this hairstyle when you watched it?
