Video Help For Easy Heart Hairstyle!!

I've had 11 people email me and 2-3 people leave comments that they've tried this heart hairstyle and just can't get it. I must have done a really bad job at explaining it the first time! Hopefully this video will help. I put in the small pony on top and regular ponytail with the braids before I started. I figured you could probably do those on your own. :)

We did have at least 2 successful attempts already though. Look how cute these turned out! Heather sent these in to show that it can be done, even with shorter hair! Here it is on her older daughter. (This adorable bow is one that she got from Bows 4 My 4 Girls!)

Here it is on her younger daughter with even shorter hair. Notice how she started the ponytail up a little higher on her head to give her more length for the braids.

See people, it can be done! Give it another try!!

Win A Spring Wardrobe!! Princess Picture Contest

I wanted to let you all know about a fun contest I was made aware of that's going on right now.

Shabby Apple is having a nation-wide model contest for their new Picture Princess. They are looking for a Shabby Baby Girl between the ages of 0-8. The winner will receive an entire Shabby Baby Spring Wardrobe and be in their Spring 2009 photo shoot. For more information about the contest, go here: contest

You won't want to miss out on this opportunity. I'm even entering this contest myself because "The Princess" needs a new wardrobe! She's grown almost 2 inches since last spring and her warm weather clothes are all too small. I love the clothing from the Shabby Apple. This is the dress from their website I love the most. Besides the clothes, "The Princess" would absolutely LOVE to be in a real photo shoot. It would be like a princess dream come true for her!!

This really isn't a hard contest to enter. Actually, I just did! You can do it too, I just showed you how :)

Heart With Ribbon - Hair Taping

Valentines Day is just around the corner! I thought it would be fun to recycle some of our old Valentines Day Hairstyles and maybe throw in a few new dos from now until Valentines Day.

Here's a heart hairdo post from 2008. A heart with ribbons! The instructions aren't great on this one (it's old) but it's one of our favorites. valentines hairstyle Start by making a half pony. (I went further down on her head than I normally would.) Split the half pony into 2 sections and braid each section. I did rope braids, you can do whatever you like.
Make another pony with the rest of her hair at the bottom.

Take one of the braids and lay it over her head forming half the heart. Secure the end in with the lower pony.

Now you can start on the ribbon. Tie one end onto the elastic. Take a needle and thread the other end through. Start "sewing" the braid right onto her hair. Take the ribbon over the top of the braid, then pull it underneath, grabbing as much hair underneath as you can. When you get to the end of the first braid, just grab the other braid and keep going, forming the rest of the heart. (The ribbon is actually what holds the braid to her head, so make it kinda tight.) And, it probably doesn't even need to be said, but.......BE CAREFUL WITH THAT NEEDLE!!! (Or use a plastic one.) hair taping When you get back to the bottom with the other braid, tie the end into the elastic. You can finish this however you want. We did a messy bun. heart hairstyle
I actually crimped the top of her hair before starting this, just to give it a little more texture.

The Valentine Hairstyle

I think the hardest thing about this one was making the parts! Just do the best you can to make a heart shape, split in two sections. After you get both sections inside-out french braided, braid them together at the bottom and add the braid to the ponytail. I wanted this to look like a homemade valentine with rufflles or lace around the heart. Anyway, I remembered this post on Girly Dos (which I love) and incorporated it here. I started sewing up the middle of the braids right where the single braid starts. Go all the way up to the part, then back down all the way to the pony. (If I had it to do over again, I would have started at the base of the ponytail, I don't know what I was thinking.)Pull the ribbon to the other side and continue sewing up to the part and back down again. This bun thingy is SUPPOSED to look like a bow. hehe I made it by not pulling the hair all the way through the elastic, then taking another elastic and doing it again with the ends. Just ignore the pink ribbon, again I don't know what I was thinking!!

Oh by the way, you've got to love the "play" make-up supposedly made for little girls. It does not come off! (That's why she has clown cheeks.)

Not my best attempt at doing hair, it's just been one of those days. But, it is..... different. You've got to give me that! LOL

French Braid Heart Hairstyle

I've been working on getting a Valentines Day post ready to go. Here's a little preview for those of you who can't wait...... I didn't do step by step pics for this one. It's basically this heart hairstyle, just French Braided instead of Elastic Braided.

Don't mind the wet hair here. We were in a hurry to get out the door for church. If I would have had time, it would be curled and so much cuter. But, you get the basic idea.. right? The next day I left the braids in and pulled everything else back into a messy bun. It looked adorable. I should have taken pictures, but I didn't. Anyway, that's another option with this hairstyle.

Princess Style Floating Braid With Video

My mom taught me how to do this braid when I was a little girl. I don't know if it's actually even a real braid or if it has a real name, but I love it nonetheless. I remember practicing this on my "Corn Silk Cabbage Patch Doll." (Did anyone else have one of those?) Anyway, I've been trying for awhile now to remember how to do it. It finally came back to me!! princess hairstyleSo yeah, watch the video first. But, this is showing how to secure the first side while you work on the other side. When you have both sides complete, join them together in the back with another elastic. See that ugly poofy section in the back? If you have this problem while trying to join the two braids, just tug on the hair beneath the braid and it should straighten out. (It did for me.) If it still doesn't look right, cover it up with a big flower or bow!!Here's the view from the top.renaissance braid And the side.medieval hairstyleThe video: I did this assuming you already know how to french braid (not adding in a whole lot of explanation or detail.) It's really not much different from a french braid at all. And yes, mycamera cut me off as usual. :(

3 Fishtail Braids Hairstyle For Girls

Another hairstyle from the summer in the middle of winter! Notice the fun summer dress and the TAN!! (Well, as tan as a fair skinned blue eyed little girl can get.)

Start with a basic low ponytail and do a pull-through. (If you don't know how to do a pull through, look under my "quick search labels" for "videos." You'll find an instructional video there!)

Split the pony into 3 sections and do fish braids in each one. (Or any other type of braid.)
Combine the 3 braids into one at the bottom and make a little loop out of the ends by not pulling the hair all the way through the elastic. Take the braids and push the ends through the hole at the top of the pony and pin with a couple of crossing bobby pins.
I remember my husband saying something about her looking like "Polyanna" at this point. Was that a compliment or an insult?
If you want, add a bow.
See, I told you she was tanish! I can't wait for warm weather again......
