New Years Eve Updo

This New Years Eve hairstyle is actually from last year. I love it so much that I had to post it again!

A fancy schmancy updo for a special occasion. Maybe a New Years party, or even a flower girl hairstyle! She actually wanted a princessy type hairdo to go with her cute new Christmas dress.

christmas dress Make the parts first. We did one section in the front for her "bangs." One across the back going from ear to ear. And four diagonal sections going from the front to the back part. Put each section in a temporary ponytail to keep everything separated.

Slick down the bangs and secure them above her ear with a clear elastic. Then, do some kind of a french braid in each of the four diagonal sections. We did french twist braids. If you don't know how to do that, we have a video tutorial at the bottom of this post.Place the finished braids up out of the way and pull the remaining hair into a ponytail. I did an upside down pull through in the ponytail to add a little volume.Next, gather all the braids directly underneath the ponytail and secure with an elastic. (You should now have 2 ponytails on top of each other.)Curl all the hair in the 2 ponytails. Now, to make the ponytail a little fancier: There is no exactness to this part. Just grab little sections of hair and sort of loop them around and secure them to her head with either bobby pins or little claw clips like this......Do as many sections as you want to. I think we ended up using five clips total.new years eve hairstyle All done!

It was one of her favorite Christmas presents this year! She looked just like a little princess with her fancy hairstyle and dress.

Cute Hairstyle For Sports

Our Princess has been playing soccer for the last few months and usually has her games right after school. So, we try to send her to school with a hairstyle that will work for sports.

When we only have time for a ponytail, by the end of the game most of her hair is coming out all over the place and in her way! So.... this is what we came up with to solve that problem. It stayed mostly in place the entire game and looks cute besides. :)
part design Make your parts and add a twist braid to each section. Of course, you could make regular braids instead if you prefer.
Then pull everything back into a ponytail. Easy peasy!

Quick Triple Twist

Nothing too exciting or unique, but here's another super quick 5 minute hairstyle for those of you who have already started a new school year or are needing back to school hairstyles soon.
5 minute hairstyle Oh, and before I start with this hairdo, let me clear something up.... When I posted this hairstyle for long hair last week we had several people ask how in the world her hair grew out so fast after donating to locks of love!?! Well actually.....it didn't! That hairstyle (as well as this one) were done long before she got her hair cut. They've just been sitting on a memory card in our camera. So... don't be alarmed if you see shoulder length hair one day and waist length hair the next. Nope, we don't have a secret concoction for growing hair and we're not using wigs or extensions lol. How exciting (depending on my mood) you never know what length of hair you might see when you visit this hair blog. A surprise, teehehe!! ;) So anyway, back to the hairstyle: Make a side part on top of her head. Then make 3 sections and add a twist braid in each one like so....Then simply braid the twist braids together into a regular 3 strand braid. You may end up with the parts showing a little bit where you made the 3 sections. If you don't like seeing scalp, spray a little bit of hairspray where the problem is and run your comb down over the part to bring the hair together on both sides. twist braid hairstyle Took less than 5 minutes. :)
rope braid hairdo
hair style for school I think it almost looks like a french twist braid on each side with a complicated corkscrew braid in the middle. But of course, it's much faster and easier than all of that!

Threaded Twist Hairstyle

A Fancy Nancy side ponytail.......

Begin with a section parted from ear to ear and a side ponytail. Speaking of side ponytails, did anyone else notice that the eighties styles are coming back in? (Even for moms.) I actually went shopping for the first time in a LONG time the other day and ended up buying some "stretch pants" and a long sweater dress thingy! I swear I had the same outfit in 3rd grade. And.....it's a good thing the sweater is long. (Because well.... lets just say that the stretch pants are not as flattering as I remember them being in 3rd grade, lol.) Anyway, back to hair.......
threaded braidsAt the back of your part, part out another strip of hair and make some twist braids all the way along it.
Don't go all the way down to her ear with the "strip of hair." Leave the sides as they are for now.Make a loose french braid from one side to the other with the remaining hair. With this braid, only take hair from the front. And what I mean by "loose" is; hold it out across the back part as you're braiding. You want it to cover the part later. End the braid with a clear elastic by her ear and add the ends to the ponytail.Using your finger as a guide...... Thread the twist braids up through the french braid.
Ooops I missed a spot, oh well. Anyway, as you can see...... all the twists are threaded through the braid. Notice that you can still see the part. We'll fix that in a minute.
If you made the french braid loose enough, you should be able to sort of pull it down over the part by gently tugging on the twists as you add them to the ponytail. If you want to cover the elastic where you ended the braid, add a cute flower to the side. Oh and of course we had to add some bobby pin flowers to the ponytail as well.twist braidsWe braided in a few more twists in the ponytail at different lengths, just for fun.french braidsside ponytail The end.

Twist To The Side Hairstyle

I've got a few new cute hairstyles ready to go that I'm excited to get posted. But, I just haven't had time this week. :(

Here's one from the past to look over until I get a chance to post something new. This one was originally posted a little over a year ago, in July of 08! An oldie!!

Start off with a diagonal part. Like this..............
Add two ponies in the front, on both sides of the part. Cross them.........

And, cross them again, making a twist. Make two more ponies, below the first ones, and add the hair from the previous ponies. Continue this all the way to the bottom of the part. (I added a temporary claw clip holding one side while I secured the other side with an elastic each time. Otherwise, it kept moving away from where I wanted it.)

At the bottom, you'll be left with two ponies next to each other. I did a twisting braid in each one, then twisted them together. (BTW, please excuse the mess in the background. My two boys were having a "lego party" while were were "playing princess.")
Wrap the twisted braid into a bun, leaving the ends on the top and secure with bobby pins.

creative hairstyle Spike out the ends with a flattening iron, and spray.
