Baby Hairstyles - Elastic Halo

This will be our last baby hairstyle of baby hair week. It's been so fun, we may have to do it again sometime! In case you missed the first few baby styles of the week, here are the links:

4 connecting ponytails
Criss Cross Pigtails
Tiny French Braids

We're calling this one the "Elastic Halo Hairstyle"

baby halo hairstyleTo begin, part out a small triangle in the back and add a ponytail. Split that ponytail in half and take half of the hair over to the next ponytail you part out. Leave the other half of the hair there so that after you go all the way around her head (and end up where you started,) you will have something to add the last bit of hair to. I tried to make triangle parts all the way around, but since I was working on a squirmy baby... they didn't turn out exactly perfect. :)
hairstyle instructions for babyWe sometimes joke that she is the "queen" of our house since we are always at her beckon call. So, maybe we should have called this the crown hairstyle instead!!

Baby Hairstyles - Criss Cross Pigtails

Criss Cross Headband With Pigtails Hairstyle For Babies:

criss cross hairstyle for babiesSince I have about a 1-2 minute window to complete a style on our little Pea before she is done... I don't have time for step by step pics. This is the best I could do!

Make ponytail 1, then directly behind it make ponytail 2. Split ponytail 2 in half and take each half of the hair over to combine on each side with ponytails 3. Lastly, split the hair in ponytail 1 in half and adding the hair from each of those halves with the hair from ponytails 3 on each side, combine everything into ponytails 4 to form the pigtails. Whew!

Candy Corn Hairstyle

We've been having lots of fun creating Halloween hairstyles this year. And making a candy corn was actually the Princess's idea! She had big plans to use hair paint and the whole bit!! Well, I opted to keep it simple for school and stay away from the paint. :) It probably would have looked more like a candy corn if we would have done it her way though. halloween hairstylesThis was super easy and quick. I'm guessing no instructions are even needed, but what the heck....
We parted it on the side and added a row of orange elastics. Then split the 2 middle ponytails in half and added a row of white.
Split the middle white ponytail in half and added a row of yellow.
And lastly, one more orange elastic.
When the candy corn was completed, I added a few flat iron curls.

fun halloween hair If you want it to look more like an actual candy corn, you could use some paint as the princess suggested. Or maybe add some ribbons. I think it's pretty cute the way it is though. Nice and subtle.

Chutes and Ladders Hairdo

Silly name, I know. But, do you see the "chutes and ladders" in this hairstyle? Yep, we've even resorted to using board games to name a hairstyle. :) What next?
hairstyle for soccerSo, begin by parting out a square on top of her head and putting the rest out of the way in a ponytail for now. Then, make a diagonal part in the front of the square, smooth the hair to the side and secure with an elastic. This will make the first "chute."
Then part out another row and make a "ladder" by adding elastics all the way across the row. (When you get to the end, add in the ponytail from the first section.)
Add another chute......
And another ladder and chute. Just keep going until you get to the back of the square.
At this point, you can add some pigtails, a ponytail, a side ponytail, braids. Whatever you want!
hairstyle for sports I thought this might be a cute hairstyle for soccer or gymnastics. I like hairdos that keep her hair out of her face for sports.
gymnastics hairstyle We took out the messy pigtails before she went to bed and left the top in while she slept. In the morning, we added some quick pigtails and she was ready in 2 minutes. Sometimes recyclable hairstyles are nice!

Ribbon Star Hairstyle

Another fun star hairstyle for the Fourth of July (or anytime of course.) This is a 5 minute hairdo, quick and easy! No french braiding skills required. This hairstyle should work well on short hair too. Maybe even a hairdo for a baby or toddler?
Feel free to watch the video for a step by step tutorial.

Here's what it will look like when you're done.......

We did this another day and took larger sections of hair for a slightly different look. If you're working with super short hair, you'll want to stick with the version above.

Ribbon Lacing For Short Hair

Can I just say that we're both loving the Princess's new short locks? I'm especially liking this cute laced hairdo on her! I think it has to be another one of my favorites. It's just really feminine and sweet.
cute hairstyle ideaI love using ribbon in our hairdos and we've done several similar ribbon hairstyles on the blog with her long hair previously. This is just a quick and cute new lacing version that will work for girls with short hair as well as long. Start by making a side part and then parting out two rectangular sections directly underneath it. Then make a regular elastic braid in each section. (I did three sections in each row, you can do more if you want.) Now you can sew in the ribbon. I'm guessing you probably already know how to do the lacing, but we added in a video at the bottom of this post just for fun if you need it.

And no, you're not color blind. This picture was actually taken on a different day than we did the original pictures with the silver ribbon. For some reason I didn't get a decent picture of the side the first time.

LOL It's just weird and I'm completely self conscious that I sound like a total dork. Am I the only one who has video/audio fright?? I really am a nerd. And yes, our "mid-blog crisis" is over. I changed the layout back to our old one (minus the background so it will hopefully load faster.) Truth be told, we both missed the cheery bright pink! The blue background seemed kind of depressing.

Flower Girl Hairstyle

Since it's finally getting... warmish out. We wanted a fun flowery spring hairdo! I think this would be a cute hairstyle for a spring wedding/flower girl, or just for fun.

I realize this veil/elastic connector/spiderweb hairdo is nothing new. But I just loved how it turned out with the flowers!!
flower girl hair style I've found the easiest way for me to make the elastics even and symmetrical with this type of style is to make the ponytails in a certain order. I begin with the ponytail in the middle/front. Split it in two and then work my way down both sides of her head before working on the middle. *Important: Notice that the second set of ponytails down (on both sides) are split in half and only one half is added in with the third set of ponies.
Now you can take the leftover halves from the second ponies and add them together in the middle. Btw, I have these elastics just sitting on top of her hair (I'm not adding in any of the hair underneath.)
For the last set, split the previous row of 3 ponytails in half and add two more elastics like so.......

Now for the fun part... adding the flowers! We used bobby pin flowers. These were quick and easy to add. I just stuck the bobby pins right through the back of the elastics where I wanted them to be. If you wanted to, you could use real flowers or fake flowers that aren't attached to bobby pins. I've added flowers to hairstyles before by simply wrapping an elastic around the stems.I thought of adding a few more rows of elastics, even going all the way down her hair. But we don't have that many flowers. I'm thinking of buying some more.!!
Oh and of course we had to add some ringlets in the ponytails with our curling iron.

Elastics To The Side

We are loving these sidewinders because we can do a quick and simple hairstyle like this one, yet when we add them in, it's still different and fun!
hairstyle for little girlsFor the hairstyle: Part out a square on top of her head first. Then part out a section in front and add the first elastic. Add the hair from the first section all the way back. Easy and quick! We added 2 sidewinders (mixing pink and clear) to the ponytail after.
adding beads to hair
hair holders hairstyle My only complaint is: We have had a hard time keeping the sidewinders in without them sliding out. (I'm guessing this is because The Princesses hair is so smooth and straight.) Our solution has been putting an elastic at the bottom of the sidewinder, which works great.

sidewinder hairdo Or, we add some type of a braid to keep the sidewinder from slipping. I recycled the top of this hairdo and used those elastics two days in a row. Hey, school starts early!!
