Quick Hairstyle | Woven Half Ponytail

A Fancy Half Ponytail

This is the first of several quick and easy hairstyles we'll be posting using a flexi clip. Of course if you don't have a flexi clip, you could accomplish this same woven look with a barrette or a variety of other hair accessories.

This would be a great hairstyle for school mornings since it can be done in under 2 minutes! We just wanted something simple, but unique and pretty at the same time.

fancy woven half ponytailI'm thinking this half-up hair style would be cute for teens, tweens, girls and moms. ;) You could maybe even wear this to a dance or other special occasion of you wanted to.

The video tutorial:

We found the clip used in this video at Lilla Rose. It's a size "extra small" if that helps.

Oh and of course, if you love this clip... we are hosting a giveaway right now. If you would like to enter to win a free Lilla Rose Clip, click over to our giveaway blog.

Woven French Braid Ponytail

French Braiding, Weaving, and Knotting:

This is a fun woven braid ponytail style. I wouldn't say this hairdo is super quick or easy, but definitely unique! An attention getter for sure. :) We haven't had time to do a different hairstyle like this for awhile and had so much fun creating it.

For best results, I would recommend making this hair style with wet hair to help the strands stay smooth while you are braiding the basket weave and tying the knots.

french braiding I realize this looks like there is some seriously intricate french braiding and plaiting going on here, but really... this isn't as hard as it looks.
woven ponytail I could see this hairstyle working for a gymnastics meet, a Renaissance Faire, figure skating, dance competitions, or maybe even school of you have an extra 20-30 minutes in the morning lol.
french plaiting wovenThis is basically a combination of several styles:French braids with flairWoven pigtails andKnotted Headband Here's the video tutorial. Hopefully it makes sense! I had to cut it up a little bit so that it didn't go on and on and on. :) Btw, The design weaver tool we used in this video can be found at Hair Flair Boutique.
Of course, let us know how it goes if you try this one. We would love to see your hairstyle pictures on our facebook page!

7 Strand Braid Video!

Here's the 7 strand braid video instructions we promised. Hopefully it makes sense. :) I found that the braid is easy to complete, but kind of hard to explain. Plus, I still have "video fright." I don't know why these silly hair videos make me so nervous, lol. I can feel my hands and voice start to shake every time I turn on the camera. Yes, it's really.....DUMB. What I wouldn't do for you guys though, geesh!

I'm hoping you'll be able to figure it out with our tutorial. Clear as mud? Let us know how it goes if you attempt it. And of course, we want to see pictures on our facebook page!
If you learn this seven strand braid, you should be able to make this type of braid with any amount of strands you want using this same technique! When the princess's hair was a little longer, I made an eleven strand braid on each side of her head one time for a wedding. (6 strands on one side of the braid and 5 on the other.) You can also make these woven flat braids into french braids by adding hair in when you weave the outside strand if you want to.

Good luck and can't wait to see your pictures!!

A Quick And Easy Twisty Hairdo

We haven't posted a hairstyle for girls with long hair since the Princess got hers cut. And I have to say, seeing these pictures makes me feel a little sad. This is one of the few long hairdos I had luckily saved to our SD card instead of on the computer when our computer crashed after THE haircut.

I actually made a video showing how to do this technique all the way down her head (kind of like a twisted looking french braid) and it turned out so beautiful! Unfortunately that video will be lost in cyberspace forever. :( If you want to do it, I bet you could figure it out though. Just keep going with this twisting technique all the way down. And if you do.... please, please post a picture to our facebook page so we can see it!

So anyway, enough rambling and back to the quick and easy twisty hair style.....
quick and easy twist hairstyleStart by making a part on the side (or middle if you prefer.) Then take a section on one side and start twisting... Twist it over to the other side of her head and secure it into place by taking a small chunk of hair where you want the twist to lie and add an elastic.
Next, take a section on the opposite side and twist.
As you're securing this one in place (the same way you did the first one) try to place it so that the twist is covering up the previous elastic.
Continue switching sides and twisting/securing as you go. This next picture is showing the 3rd twist I made.

We ended up doing 5 total twists this time. On the last elastic, I added a clip just for fun. Of course, you can do as many twists as you would like, as far down as you want to go.

twisted hairdo This hairstyle would look cute with the bottom curled in my opinion. But of course, we didn't have time for that the day we did this one.
twist hairstyle If you want to use bobby pins instead of rubber bands, you could do that too. For me, rubberbands seem to stay more secure and are easier to add. Do whatever works best for you! long hair

Quick Twist And Weave

Here's a fun, quick and cute woven hairstyle that will work for those of you sporting a short graduated bob like the princess, or even if you have beautiful, long, flowing locks. :)
weave Start with 4 squares...
Split one of the ponytails in the front into 3 strands and twist each of them separately.
Add to the ponytail on the opposite side, in the back.
Split the other pony in the front into 3 and weave each twisted strand through separately.
Bring each of the 3 strands through going under and over the twists to the other side forming a woven pattern. (You can watch our video at the end of this tutorial if you need it.)
Add some fun hair accessories just for kicks! Her hair is still wet here. It looked so much cuter when it dried and "fluffed" up a little. :)quick hairstyle for girls

Woven Hair Headband

A fun woven headband hairstyle for a little girl or teen!
hairstyles for little girls Start by making a part from ear to ear and 8 small ponytails. 4 in the front, 4 directly behind.
Take the ponytail in the front/left and make 2 twists. Then split the 3rd ponytail from the left (in the front) in half and make 2 more twists with one of the halves. Combine those 4 twists together with the ponytail 2nd from the left in the back. (With another elastic.) Whew! That sounds confusing even though it shouldn't be. :)
Now take the second ponytail from the left, in the front and split it in half. Make 2 twists with one of the halves and weave them both through your first set of twists over to the ponytail in the back/left. Notice that the first woven twist goes under first then over. The second twist goes over first and then under. Just make sure they are woven through opposite ways.
Make 2 twists with the hair in the ponytail in the front/right. Also take the leftover half from the 2nd ponytail in the front and weave it through the twists in the middle. Combine those 4 twists with the ponytail 2nd from the right in the back.
After that you should just have one half of a ponytail left in the front. Twist it up into 2 pieces and weave it over to the back/right ponytail.
This hairdo really isn't as hard as my instructions have made it sound! Plus it held up for 2 days. Love that! If you wanted to braid the pieces instead of twisting them, you could do that too. I think it would look really pretty. I just like the twists because they are quicker for me.

woven headband hairstyle I've got another one using this same concept ready to go, only it's much quicker/simpler. I'm hoping to have time to post it next week for you.
Hope you're all having a nice summer!

Crossing Paths French Braids

I didn't know quite where I was going with this hairstyle when I started. We usually sorta have a plan, but this one just kind of created itself. Sometimes it's fun to just start braiding on your cute little girl's head and see what you end up with!
Start with a part on the side and make 2 sections going down to her ear. Secure the section in the front with an elastic right above her ear. Put the section in the back in a temporary clip or scrunchie to keep it out of the way.Make 2 more diagonal sections behind the first two and inside-out french braid them. Now take the scrunchie out of the section in front of the french braids, split it in 2, and braid both pieces. Bring the braids over across the top of the french braids (to the other side of her head) and secure them each to a little piece of hair under your part with an elastic. I curled the hair in each of the 5 little ponytails with our flat iron and added a couple of cute clips from Nellie Bugs to the section in the front.x braids

Wormy Weave Hairstyle

With Halloween being less than a week away, and worms being kinda "Halloweenish".........Here's another one of our hairstyles from "back in the day" before we kept a hair blog! I dug these photos right out of our old hair scrapbook. Of course I didn't do step by step pics for the scrapbook, so this is all I have. I don't think step by step instructions would help with this one anyway. It's a random and haphazard style.

I jotted down some notes in our book and it was fun to read that the day I did this, The Princess asked for "The elastic hairstyle. But, not the normal ones.....crazy worm ones." She's a funny girl, she usually has a very specific idea in mind when I ask her how she wants her hair done. :)

I'm guessing The Princess is about 4 in these pictures. She's so little! sniff.....

Btw, do you love my photo editing "skills"? hehe (I really need to get photoshop.)

hairstyle for little girls No rhyme or reason really. Crazy she wanted, and crazy she got! I remember this hairdo taking awhile. But it also stayed in for days and she got lots of attention from it, so it was worth it. :) PS.... If you're looking for a hairstyle to go with your Halloween costume, be sure to check out our Halloween hair post! Maybe you'll find what you're looking for there! Also, I feel the need to apologize to some of you. I've had a whole bunch of people email requests for specific halloween hairstyles, and I haven't returned emails to anyone. Frankly, I've been working on a project and just haven't had a lot of time for much of anything extra lately. I didn't mean to ignore you, I hope you'll forgive me!!
