Knotted Half Ponytail Hairstyle

Here's another quick and easy hairstyle that can be made using a Flexi Clip.

Half Ponytail Hair Knot

fancy half ponytail hairstyleThis style literally takes 1 minute to complete! Great for moms, teens, tweens and kids on busy school mornings. I would recommend this hairstyle for long hair or medium length hair.

I think the "hair jewelry" or "flexi clip" gives this hairdo such a pretty, fancy and elegant look. But, if you don't have a flexi clip, you could use a barrette or other accessory to secure the knot. You could even use a regular rubber band if you wanted to.

Here's a quick video tutorial showing how to make the hair knot:

Just a fun, quick and easy way to spice up a regular old half pony.

Oh, and of course... Happy April Fools Day!! Don't worry, I'm not going to try and pull any tricks on you this year. But, if you are in the mood for a silly April Fool's joke, you can check out our post from last year here: April Fools

Woven French Braid Ponytail

French Braiding, Weaving, and Knotting:

This is a fun woven braid ponytail style. I wouldn't say this hairdo is super quick or easy, but definitely unique! An attention getter for sure. :) We haven't had time to do a different hairstyle like this for awhile and had so much fun creating it.

For best results, I would recommend making this hair style with wet hair to help the strands stay smooth while you are braiding the basket weave and tying the knots.

french braiding I realize this looks like there is some seriously intricate french braiding and plaiting going on here, but really... this isn't as hard as it looks.
woven ponytail I could see this hairstyle working for a gymnastics meet, a Renaissance Faire, figure skating, dance competitions, or maybe even school of you have an extra 20-30 minutes in the morning lol.
french plaiting wovenThis is basically a combination of several styles:French braids with flairWoven pigtails andKnotted Headband Here's the video tutorial. Hopefully it makes sense! I had to cut it up a little bit so that it didn't go on and on and on. :) Btw, The design weaver tool we used in this video can be found at Hair Flair Boutique.
Of course, let us know how it goes if you try this one. We would love to see your hairstyle pictures on our facebook page!

Knotted Twisty Bun

A quick and easy knotted bun. I think this would be a great hairstyle for dance recitals, ballet performances, or other sports. It stays in really well, keeps the hair out of her face, and looks cute besides. :)
bun for dancing We added a few knots in front this time for some added flair. Of course this is optional. But if you want to add the knots like we did here, leave some hair out in front before you make the ponytail....
Then part out a few sections with the hair you left out. We made zig zag parts between the sections just for fun. Tie some knots and add the ends in with the ponytail to keep them secure.
This hairstyle video tutorial is showing how to do the knotted bun itself:
If you have long hair, it works better to make knots in the entire ponytail instead of leaving some hair out like we did in this short hair version. And then instead of leaving the ends out to spike, you could curl them if you wanted for a more elegant and less messy look.

Christmas Hairstyle - Holly Berries

First of all, I want to thank everyone who joined us in the "candle for Bryson" post yesterday. The enormous support shown to the Ross family was awesome and brought a tear to my eye. :)

And now, another fun holiday hairstyle....

hairstyle for girls This one is very simple. Just some barbie bangs and 3 knots to form the "berries." (Make sure to add an elastic to the bottom of the knots to keep them tight.)holly berry hairstyleWe stole some "accessories" off an ornament on our Christmas tree!holiday hairstyle for little girlsSorry about the dark picture. Don't know what's up with that?

She had some braids in the day before which made some cute waves. We finished off the look by curling in some ringlets with our curling iron.

Knotty, Knotty - A Cute Messy Do!

Oh goodness. I just found this one in my drafts dated back in July of 08! For some reason I didn't include any step by step pics. Oh well, it's pretty self explanatory. Enjoy!

Make your zig zag part first. Then add the knots one side at a time. Add the ends from the previous section to the next knot all the way down. Pull everything together at the bottom and make some kind of a messy bun. (Just make sure to add an elastic at the bottom of each knot. Otherwise they will come undone.)

knotted hairstyle I remember this picture, lol. She was trying to blow a bubble! :)
hairstyle for girls Try not to make everything too perfect. Part of the charm of this style is the messiness!

cute hairstyle I also found this extremely old video showing how to do a knot. The sound stinks and it's not the greatest. It was actually taken for a different style that I lost the pictures for (yes I'm really organized) but the concept is the same. You get the idea, right?

French Braids With Flair, Take 2

hairstyles for girls I didn't do step by step instructions for this one, it's just a variation of this french braid hairstyle. If you need further instructions, click on that link for help. :)
knot hairstyle BTW, this cute flower came from Every Little Detail.twisted cornrowsI'm guessing most of you already know how to do those knots on top. They're pretty common and I'm sure I've seen tutorials for them on most of the other hair blogs. But, if you need instructions, you can go here.

hairstyles for little girls We left the knots in overnight which held up really well and made some curly pigtails with the rest the next day. Gotta love 2 for 1 hairstyles!

Bantu Knots/Zulu Knots, African American Hairdos, Day 3

I don't know if I'm sold on the look of this one, but the princess loved it!! We did this on Saturday morning and took them out before she went to bed. She ended up with beautiful curls for church on Sunday.
So anyway, these are really easy to do if you want to give it a try. Just section off some hair and start twisting...... When you get the piece twisted, start wrapping it around itself. When you get to the end, wrap an elastic around the whole thing to keep it in place. If you're working with African American hair, you may not even need an elastic. Just tuck the ends in on the bottom layer and it should stay all by itself! (At least that's what I've heard.)I'm thinking this would probably work a little better with shorter hair. These knots just seem huge to me, LOL. I've actually seen some babies wearing these type of knots and they look adorable!
As you can see, I TRIED to make a fancy design with the parts. Yikes! It's harder than it looks to make a design on someones head.

I took pictures of the curls when we took these out but I can't find them! I'm guessing they got deleted the the last time I cleaned out my folder. Dang it! They turned out really cute too. Well, if you have a spunky little girl who wants to get noticed, this would be a good style for that. Otherwise, if you're staying home and looking for another way to curl hair without using heat, this works really well. (For all types of hair.)Be sure to check back tomorrow for day 4! It's my favorite of the AA styles we have tried.

Knotted Headband And Piggies

! The Tinkerbell Boutique is where we got these flowers and the princess has wanted to wear them every single day since!
Start by making a set of piggies with a section left out in front, parted on a slant.

Starting on one side of the part, take a section and do a half shoe string knot. Take the end on the right (closest to the pig) and temporarily pin it back by the pig.

Part out another section. Adding in the end from the knot above, do another shoe string knot, sending the end on the right over by the pig again. Continue to the bottom of the section. When you get to the bottom, take all the ends you have pinned to the side and add them to the pig. (Repeat these steps on both sides of her head.)

To do the knot/bun on the pig: Take the pig and split it in two. Do a half shoe string knot. Take one of the ends and twist it.

Wrap the twisted piece around the knot several times.Bring it down to the bottom of the pig and add it in with the other end of the knot with an elastic. Now you can curl the piggies and add some cute bows or flowers.

(Sorry about this picture, I was having a hard time with my camera.)

I LOVE the buttons in these flowers!! I may have to stop by Lil Tinkerbell Boutique for another set!

Twisted Knots Tween Hairstyle

I have wanted some cute flowers for my daughter's hair for the longest time. I've tried to make them myself, but I'm really bad at it. I LOVE these!! If you want some of your very own, I happen to know where you can get them.....Go straight to Angela's Accessories boutique.

For the style: Start by parting out 3-4 sections and do a twisting braid in each one. I did 4. In the top section I did a pull-through. (If you don't know how to do a twisting braid or a pull through, look under my "quick search labels" for "videos." You'll find instructional videos there!)

Tie each of the braids into a knot, at the very top (by the elastic) and pin with some bobby pins. Send the ends hanging down alternating sides.
Here's the finished product. Ok, I LOVE these flower clips!

This style would be ok on its own. But, the flowers make it SO much cuter. If you are in need of some cute new hair accessories, go check out Angelas Accessories.
Now, here's a little lesson on what to do when church starts in 10 minutes and you haven't even thought about hair...........I took out yesterday's style (the one at the top of this post) pulled it all into a side pony, made a little loop at the top, and let the snakes from the twist braids hang freely. This would normally look like a complete disaster, but Angelas Accessories saved the day with another cute clip! Even some of my worst attempts at doing hair can look cute with the right bow!
And a little side note: I don't know what the makers of these clips have done differently, but all 3 of these stayed in ALL DAY! I've tried some in the past that slip right out almost immediately. These are honestly the best ones I've tried for staying put. So, go check out Angelas Accessories, you won't be disappointed!
